Amend the resolve by striking out the title and substituting the following:

‘Resolve, To Report Physician-diagnosed Cases of Lyme Disease’

Amend the resolve by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Preamble. Whereas,  the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention investigates and collects data on reports of Lyme disease; and

Whereas,   the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention's data excludes cases of physician-diagnosed Lyme disease in which a person does not have the erythema migrans, the characteristic bull's-eye rash associated with Lyme disease, or laboratory confirmation of infection; and

Whereas,  excluding cases of physician-diagnosed Lyme disease in which a person does not have the erythema migrans or laboratory confirmation of infection may result in an underreporting of the incidence of the disease in the State; now, therefore, be it

Sec. 1. Report Physician-diagnosed Cases of Lyme Disease. Resolved: That the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention shall report cases of physician-diagnosed Lyme disease in the absence of erythema migrans or laboratory confirmation of infection on its publicly accessible website.’

This amendment is the minority report of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services. The amendment changes the title of the resolve and removes the requirement that the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention expand the case definition of Lyme disease that it uses to prepare the Lyme Disease Surveillance Report. It requires the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention to report cases of physician-diagnosed Lyme disease on its publicly accessible website.
