JOINT RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE LEGISLATURE'S SUPPORT FOR THE INSTALLATION OF WIND POWER GENERATING FACILITIES IN THE STATE
WHEREAS, the State of Maine has established a reputation as one of the Nation’s most aggressive states in preserving and enhancing the environment; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maine has also established a commitment to the health and welfare of its people, and Maine people suffer from the impact of documented unhealthy emissions from industries in states to the west; and
WHEREAS, the health and welfare of current and future generations of Maine children are at risk because of these unhealthy air emissions, over which the State has little control; and
WHEREAS, the United States is inordinately dependent on oil and on the cartel of oil-producing nations; and
WHEREAS, Maine citizens desire and deserve economical means of electrical power, and it is imperative that the State identify and use alternative sources of power generation; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maine is blessed with the potential to become a significant host for wind power generation; now, therefore, be it
That We, the Members of the One Hundred and Twenty-third Legislature, now assembled in the First Regular Session, on behalf of the people we represent, take this opportunity to express our unequivocal support for wind power as a means of producing economical electricity, and we encourage the construction and operation of wind power generating facilities in the State of Maine.
