Resolve, To Establish a Pilot Program for a Trimester Schedule at the University of Maine at Presque Isle
Emergency preamble. Whereas, acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and
Whereas, the subject of this legislation needs to be addressed before that 90-day limit occurs; and
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,
Sec. 1. Pilot program established. Resolved: That the University of Maine at Presque Isle shall establish a 3-year pilot program to begin September 2007 to implement a trimester system during the school year to create a 3-year period for earning a bachelor's degree. The university shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs by February 15th each year on the status of the program.
Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.
