An Act To Correct an Inconsistency in Unemployment Insurance Tax Law
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §1221, sub-§5, ¶B, as repealed and replaced by PL 1981, c. 16, §7, is repealed.
summary
This bill corrects an inconsistency that occurred in 2005 when legislation was passed prohibiting the practice of State Unemployment Tax Act dumping, or "SUTA dumping," in order to comply with a recently passed federal statutory mandate. That legislation conflicted with an existing section of state law dealing with transfers of experience for unemployment tax rate purposes. This bill removes the conflicting statutory language.
