An Act To Require Maine To Submit DNA Samples of Sex Offenders to the National DNA Registry
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §1574, sub-§7 is enacted to read:
7. Sex offenders. A person convicted of a sex offense as defined in Title 34-A, section 11203, subsection 6 or a sexually violent offense as defined in Title 34-A, section 11203, subsection 7 shall submit to having a DNA sample taken as required under subsection 1. A profile of a DNA sample taken under this subsection must be sent to CODIS.

This bill requires a person convicted of a sex offense or a sexually violent offense to submit to having a DNA sample taken and the Chief of the State Police is required to send a profile of that DNA sample to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's national DNA identification index system.
