An Act To Decrease Energy Costs on Swans Island and Frenchboro
Emergency preamble. Whereas, acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and
Whereas, the reduction of the cost of providing electric service on Swans Island and the Town of Frenchboro's islands must be resolved before the end of the legislative session; and
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,
Sec. 1. Swans Island and the Town of Frenchboro's islands electric cooperative; authority to sell power under certain circumstances. Notwithstanding the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 35-A, section 3207, subsection 1, paragraph B, the electric cooperative on Swans Island and the Town of Frenchboro’s islands, a consumer-owned transmission and distribution company, may sell wholesale generation service in order to reduce its cost of providing retail service.
Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.
