Resolve, To Evaluate Parenting Education and To Develop Parenting Resources in Maine High Schools
Sec. 1. Convene working group. Resolved: That the Department of Education shall convene a working group composed of educators, high school students, young parents and representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services to compile resources for parenting education, to evaluate the role of parenting education in Maine schools and to consider recommending the incorporation of parenting as an important life skill into the State's system of learning results. The working group shall consider issues relating to parenting education, including, but not limited to, the availability of educational resources regarding the nature and care of children, especially infants and toddlers; the intellectual, physical and emotional development of children; and patterns of growth; and be it further
Sec. 2. Provision of parenting resources. Resolved: That, based on the recommendations of the working group established pursuant to section 1, the Department of Education shall distribute to each high school library in the State a compilation of parenting resources designed to form the basis of a parenting resource center. The department shall also make the parenting resources available on the department's publicly accessible website.

The purpose of this resolve is to make information on parenting skills more accessible to high school students interested in learning about parenting. This resolve directs the Department of Education to convene a working group to compile resources for parenting education and to consider recommending the incorporation of parenting as an important life skill into the State's system of learning results. The resolve also directs that the Department of Education provide parenting resources to all the high schools in the State.
