Resolve, Directing the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources To Establish Rules Concerning Certified Organic Seed
Sec. 1. Rules. Resolved: That the Commissioner of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources shall establish rules for the registration and verification by a 3rd party of seed labeled or sold as organic or grown as a crop to be certified organic, or both, to ensure that the seed is free of genetically engineered materials. The commissioner is authorized to charge a fee for the testing services. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are major substantive rules as defined in the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
