An Act Regarding Returnable Containers
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 32 MRSA §1865, sub-§4 is enacted to read:
4. Font size; color. The embossing, stamping, labeling or other method of secure attachment to the refundable beverage container required by this section must be done in letters and numbers at least 1/4 inch in height. The letters and numbers must be in an easily read font and of a color that is in sharp contrast to the background upon which they are embossed, stamped, labeled or attached.
Sec. 2. Effective date. This Act takes effect 180 days after approval.

This bill requires the letters and numbers of the refund value and the word "Maine" or "ME" placed on refundable beverage containers to be at least 1/4 inch in height, in a font style that is easily read and of a color that is in sharp contrast to the background on which the refund value and state designation are embossed, stamped, labeled or attached.
