Resolve, Directing the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development To Convene a Working Group To Explore Regionalization
Sec. 1. Convene working group. Resolved: That the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development shall convene a working group to explore efficiencies and benefits to be gained through regionalization. In establishing the working group, the commissioner shall invite the participation of the State’s economic development districts, countywide councils of governments, municipal economic development organizations and other economic and industrial development resources. The working group shall consider measures designed to make advocacy for business more coordinated and cost-effective, to reduce duplication and to support the efforts of the business community. Specifically, the working group shall consider the impact of regionalization of services, including but not limited to code enforcement services; public works services; fire and police services; and purchasing of supplies and equipment; and be it further
Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That, no later than December 15, 2007, the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development shall submit a report of its findings under section 1, together with any necessary implementing legislation, to the Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government. After receipt and review of the report, the joint standing committee may submit legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 123rd Legislature.
