Resolve, Directing the Department of Public Safety To Convene a Working Group To Review the Functioning of College and University Law Enforcement Departments
Sec. 1. Convene working group. Resolved: That the Department of Public Safety shall convene a working group to review the functioning of college and university law enforcement departments. In convening the working group, the department shall invite the participation of representatives of colleges or universities, law enforcement officers, chiefs of college or university law enforcement departments, the Maine State Police, the Maine Chiefs of Police Association and other interested parties. In conducting the review, the working group shall examine the roles, responsibilities, jurisdiction and benefits of college and university law enforcement departments. The department shall report on the results of the study by the working group, including any necessary implementing legislation, by January 30, 2008 to the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Upon its receipt and review of the recommendations, the joint standing committee may submit legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 123rd Legislature.
