An Act To Reduce Maine's Property Tax Burden by Funding County Jails

Sec. 1. 34-A MRSA §1217  is enacted to read:

§ 1217.  Operating costs for county jails

Beginning July 1, 2008 and annually thereafter, the Department of Corrections must pay 50% of all operating costs for county jails statewide.

Sec. 2. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.

County Jail Prisoner Support and Community Corrections Fund 0888

Initiative: Appropriates funds on an ongoing basis to pay 50% of all operating costs for county jails statewide.
