An Act To Allow Residents of a Township in the Unorganized Territory To Enact a Noise Ordinance for That Township
Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA c. 307 is enacted to read:

UNORGANIZED tOWNSHIPS
§ 7601. Noise ordinance
An unincorporated township in the unorganized territory may enact a noise ordinance with the same authority as a municipality under section 3001. A noise ordinance measure must be put on the ballot in that township for the next statewide election upon a petition submitted to the county commissioners of the county in which the unincorporated township is located. The petition must be signed by at least 25 residents of the township or 10% of the residents of the township, whichever is less. The county commissioners must relay the petition to the Secretary of State promptly after receipt of the petition. A petition for a ballot question pertaining to a noise ordinance under this section must be received by the Secretary of State within the time frame the Secretary of State determines is necessary to prepare the ballot.
