The Secretary of
State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average
length for the general election in November. If the number or size of the
referendum questions increases the ballot length, an additional appropriation
of $8,000 or more may be required. A
special election would require an additional appropriation of $121,392. |

This
amendment decreases the cost of the study by not authorizing two additional
meetings. It reduces the bill's Other
Special Revenue Funds allocation to the Legislature to $1,000 in fiscal year
2006-07 for offsite public hearing costs of one already authorized meeting of
the Task Force to Study Maine's Homeland Security Needs. The amendment also authorizes a one-time
Other Special Revenue Funds transfer of $1,000 in fiscal year 2006-07 from
the Maine Emergency Management Agency within the Department of Defense,
Veterans and Emergency Management to the Legislature to cover these
additional costs. |
