Correctional
and Judicial Impact Statements: |
This
legislation allows post-judgment conviction motions for DNA analysis to be
brought at any time by any convicted person and will likely result in an
increase in the number of cases filed in the court system. This new caseload may require additional
judges, clerks and security and necessitate additional indigent defense
costs. The Department of the Attorney
General may also experience an increase in workload. The bill has the potential for early
release of prisoners in a few cases, decreasing correctional costs to the
Department of Corrections. |
