Correctional and
Judicial Impact Statements: |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Establishing
stricter penalties for operating after license suspension or revocation will
result in increased annual admissions to state and county correction
facilities and additional future costs to the facilities. The Judicial Department has also indicated
that requiring substantial minimum sentences that can not be suspended for
operating after license suspension or revocation will result in fewer cases
being resolved without trial, increasing trial and sentencing costs due to
additional time requirements for judges, clerks, law clerks, security, court
reporters and indigent defense. |

Mandating
the impoundment of certain vehicles by law enforcement agencies is likely to
result in significant additional costs to the State Police program within the
Department of Public Safety and to municipal and county law enforcement
agencies. The amounts will depend on
the number of vehicles that need to be impounded and the circumstances
surrounding each impoundment and can not be determined at this time. |
