This
legislation will have no fiscal impact on the General Purpose Aid for Local
Schools program within the Department of Education. However, eliminating the requirement that a
referendum vote be held in a member municipality of a school administrative
district or a community school district where the school board has voted to
close an elementary school unless a petition is signed by at least 10% of the
eligible voters in the municipality may result in a savings of referendum
costs to the district. Although these
savings may be partially offset by the cost of preparing and sending the
required written notice to parents and guardians of all elementary school
students, it is expected that this legislation will result in a net savings
to school districts. |
