Requiring
life probation for certain repeat sex offenders will result in additional
costs to the Department of Corrections starting in fiscal year 2017-18. It is projected that each case of life
probation will cost the department approximately $200,000 in additional
supervision costs based on an average cost of $12 per day over 46 years. Also, by fiscal year 2023-24, the
Department of Corrections would have to begin to hire additional probation
officers each year to maintain sex offender caseloads at a ratio of 1 to 40. |
