| An Act Relating to Disclosures in Political Advertising |

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §1014, sub-§3-B is enacted to read: |
|
| | 3-B.__Newspapers.__A newspaper may not publish a communication | described in subsection 1 or 2 without including the disclosure | required by this section.__For purposes of this subsection, | "newspaper" includes any printed material intended for general | circulation or to be read by the general public.__When necessary, | a newspaper may seek the advice of the commission regarding | whether or not the communication requires the disclosure. |

| | Sec. 2. 21-A MRSA §1055, as amended by PL 2003, c. 615, §2, is | further amended by adding after the 2nd paragraph a new paragraph | to read: |

| | A newspaper may not publish a communication described in this | section without including the disclosure required by this section.__For | purposes of this paragraph, "newspaper" includes any printed material | intended for general circulation or to be read by the general public.__ | When necessary, a newspaper may seek the advice of the commission | regarding whether or not the communication requires the disclosure. |
