Resolve, To Direct the Department of Environmental Protection To Consolidate the Management of Solid Waste
Sec. 1. Solid waste management. Resolved: That the Department of Environmental Protection shall develop a plan to consolidate the management of solid waste under the department. The current system involves a combination of the department and the Executive Department, State Planning Office; and be it further
Sec. 2. Meetings held. Resolved: That the Department of Environmental Protection shall meet with all interested stakeholders and the State Planning Office to institute this consolidation to achieve the state goals as listed in the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 38, section 2132; and be it further
Sec. 3. Proposed legislation. Resolved: That, by January 15, 2007, the Department of Environmental Protection shall propose a report during the First Regular Session of the 123rd Legislature, with suggested legislation, to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over natural resources matters on its plan to institute this consolidation of solid waste.
SUMMARY
This resolve directs the Department of Environmental Protection to meet with all interested stakeholders and the Executive Department, State Planning Office and provide a report to the joint standing committee of the Legislature have jurisdiction over natural resources matters by January 17, 2007, which may report out legislation to consolidate the management of solid waste in this State under the Department of Environmental Protection.
