An Act To Provide Supplemental Funding for Mileage Reimbursement for Volunteers for the Meals on Wheels Programs
Emergency preamble. Whereas, acts of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and
Whereas, motor fuel prices have risen dramatically over the past year; and
Whereas, meals on wheels programs rely on volunteer drivers to deliver food to program participants; and
Whereas, it is necessary to reimburse the volunteer drivers for mileage to ensure the continued viability of the meals on wheels programs; and
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,
Sec. 1. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, DEPARTMENT OF
Elder and Adult Services, Bureau of
Initiative: Provides funds to supplement funding for mileage reimbursement to volunteers for meals on wheels programs. The funds are to be distributed to each Area Agency on Aging via the guidelines identified in the federal Older Americans Act of 1965.

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this Act takes effect when approved.
