Sec. 1. Study of division of Maine into 2 states. Resolved: That the Executive
Department, State Planning Office shall study the feasibility and
effects of dividing Maine into 2 separate states. The territory
of the new states must correspond to the congressional First
District and Second District as defined in the Maine Revised
Statutes, Title 21-A, section 1205. The State Planning Office
shall submit its report and recommendations, including any
implementing legislation, to the Second Regular Session of the
122nd Legislature no later than January 15, 2006.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve requires the Executive Department, State Planning
Office to study the feasibility of dividing Maine into 2 separate
states based upon the current districts for the election of
representatives from Maine to the United States Congress.
