| Sec. 1. Determination of need for teachers of modern and classical languages. |
Resolved: That the Department of Education shall determine if |
there is a shortage of teachers in the areas of modern and |
classical languages in public and private institutions of |
learning in this State. If the department determines that there |
is a shortage, the department shall determine whether any |
shortage is the result of a lack of college students selecting |
language as a field of study or the institutions' failure to |
retain those teachers. The department shall determine what |
methods, such as scholarships and grants, may be used to reduce |
the shortage. The department shall report back to the Joint |
Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs by January |
15, 2006 with the department's determination and any necessary |
implementing legislation. The Joint Standing Committee on |
Education may report out a bill to the Second Regular Session of |
the 122nd Legislature implementing the recommendations of the |
department. |
