Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2081, sub-§4, ķE, as amended by PL 1997, c. 450, §3
and affected by §5, is repealed.

 
SUMMARY

 
Current law prohibits the enforcement of the seat belt law
unless the driver has been stopped for a violation of a law other
than failing to wear a seat belt.

 
This bill repeals that prohibition, allowing a police officer
to detain and cite a vehicle operator or passenger 18 years of
age or older solely for failing to wear a seat belt.
