Fiscal Detail and Notes
Increasing the tax on all tobacco products will increase General Fund revenue by $14,930,930 in fiscal year 2003-04 and $22,823,076 in fiscal year 2004-05. The increase in sales and use tax collections will also increase the amounts transferred to the Local Government Fund for state-municipal revenue sharing by $3,101 in fiscal year 2003-04 and $4,653 in fiscal year 2004-05.  Maine Revenue Services will require a General Fund appropriation of $73,500 in fiscal year 2003-04 for the administrative costs associated with this change.
