An Act To Strengthen the Animal Control Laws

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §3952, first ¶, as enacted by PL 1999, c. 350, §2, is amended to read:

A person who owns or keeps a dangerous dog commits a civil violation for which a forfeiture of not more than $1,000, plus costs, may be adjudged the court shall adjudge a fine of not less than $250 and not more than $1,000, plus costs, none of which may be suspended.
