The commissioner serves at the | pleasure of the Governor.__Any candidate for the office of | commissioner must have a record of demonstrated support for, and | an understanding of, the basics of modern wildlife and fisheries | management and have experience in hunting, fishing or trapping. |

| | 1.__Facilities.__The commissioner is entitled to have an | office at the seat of government and adequate facilities for the | transaction of the business of the department. |

| | 2.__Traveling expenses. The commissioner is entitled to | receive all necessary traveling expenses. |

| | In addition to other duties set out in this Part, the | commissioner has the following duties. |

| | 1.__Appointment of deputy.__The commissioner shall appoint, to | serve at the commissioner's pleasure, the Deputy Commissioner of | Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, who must be qualified by training | and experience in fisheries and wildlife management or | conservation law enforcement. Under the commissioner's direction, | the deputy commissioner assists in the administration of the | department.__The deputy commissioner serves as the commissioner | if the commissioner is disabled or absent or if the office of the | commissioner becomes vacant.__The commissioner may appoint an | appropriate administrative officer in the department to perform | the functions of the commissioner if both the commissioner and | deputy commissioner are disabled or absent. |

| | 2.__Administration and enforcement.__Except as provided by | statute, the commissioner has general supervision of the | administration and enforcement of the inland fisheries and | wildlife laws and has the responsibility for the management of | all inland fish and wildlife in the State.__The commissioner has | responsibility for investigations carried out on behalf of the | State in matters related to the status and needs of any inland | fisheries and wildlife species and is the representative of the | State in providing information associated with the status and | needs of these natural resources to municipalities, political | subdivisions of the State and the Federal Government. |
