Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7557, as enacted by PL 1995, c. 455, §36, is
amended to read:

 
§7557. Identifying waters where children may not

 
fish with single baited hook and line

 
Rules adopted by the commissioner that set forth the special
fishing regulations for inland waters of the State must
include a list of waters where a person under 12 years of age
may not fish with a single baited hook and line.

 
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §7559, as enacted by PL 1999, c. 642, §1, is
repealed.

 
Sec. 3. 12 MRSA §7560 is enacted to read:

 
§7560.__Fishing with worms

 
A person 12 years of age or younger may fish from shore in
all areas of the State with a single-baited hook and line
using worms, except in the rivers that have a salmon
population listed as endangered during the open water fishing
season.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill allows a person 12 years of age or younger to fish
with worms in all areas of the State, except in the rivers
that have salmon that are listed as endangered.
