Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §281, sub-§3 is enacted to read:

3.__Compensation.__Notwithstanding subsection 1, the compensation and benefits of all full-time and part-time employees in the office of each district attorney must be fixed by the district attorney and paid by the State from the State Treasury in biweekly payments on a date to be determined by the State Controller.__The compensation and benefits of each employee must be set at levels commensurate with the levels for a comparable employee in the Office of the Attorney General.

SUMMARY

This bill provides that the State shall pay the cost of compensation and benefits for full-time and part-time employees in the offices of the district attorneys. The compensation and benefits of each employee must be set at levels commensurate with the levels for a comparable employee in the Office of the Attorney General, in the same manner that under current law deputy and assistant district attorneys are treated comparably to assistant attorneys general for compensation and benefits.
