Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §1562-A
is enacted to read:
§1562-A.__Medical care and expenses; reimbursement by State
A county shall exercise all methods of obtaining all sources
of reimbursement allowed for medical care expenses under
sections 1561 and 1562, and the State shall then reimburse a
county for all remaining medical and health care expenses
incurred by the county for a prisoner in the county jail.
SUMMARY
This bill requires the State to reimburse each county for
all remaining medical care expenses that county incurs caring
for a prisoner in a county jail after the county has exercised
all other methods for obtaining reimbursement from the
prisoner.
