Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1974, sub-§5, ķE is enacted to read:

E.__Beginning in fiscal year 2003-04, the authority shall make, in addition to payments under paragraphs A to C, annual payments of $4,000,000 by June 30th of each year to be deposited into the unallocated reserve of the Highway Fund.__With the approval of the Commissioner of Transportation, the authority may provide an in-kind service of equivalent value to the Department of Transportation in place of the annual payment.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the Maine Turnpike Authority to pay an additional $4,000,000 per year to the Highway Fund for the services provided by the State Police. The bill also allows the authority, with the approval of the Commissioner of Transportation, to provide in-kind services of an equivalent value in lieu of the annual payment.
