Sec. 1. Affordable housing for veterans review. Resolved: That the Maine
State Housing Authority, within existing resources, shall
study ways to promote the construction of affordable housing
for senior, retired, disabled and homeless veterans and their
spouses. As part of the review, the Maine State Housing
Authority shall seek input from the Department of Defense,
Veterans and Emergency Management, Bureau of Maine Veterans'
Services, the Department of Human Services, veterans'
organizations, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical and
Regional Office at Togus, nonprofit and for-profit housing
developers, local housing authorities and social service
providers who provide services to veterans; and be it further

 
Sec. 2. Report to Legislature. Resolved: That the Maine State Housing
Authority shall report its findings to the joint standing
committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over business
and economic development matters and to the Community
Preservation Advisory Committee established by the Maine
Revised Statutes, Title 5, section 12004-I, subsection 24-F by
October 1, 2004; and be it further

 
Sec. 3. Authority to report out legislation. Resolved: That the joint
standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over
business and economic development matters and the Community
Preservation Advisory Committee may report out legislation to
the First Regular Session of the 122nd Legislature to
implement the recommendations and findings included in the
report.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Maine State Housing Authority to
look at ways to promote the construction of affordable housing
for veterans.
