Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §3915, as amended by PL 2001, c. 13, §1, is further amended to read:

§3915. Violation

Any person who violates this chapter commits a civil violation for which a forfeiture of not less than $50 $150 nor more than $250 $300 may be adjudged for a first violation and not less than $100 $200 nor more than $500 $600 for 2 or more violations.

Sec. 2. 7 MRSA §3952, first ¶, as enacted by PL 1999, c 350, §2, is amended to read:

A person who owns or keeps a dangerous dog commits a civil violation for which a forfeiture of not less than $250 nor more than $1,000, plus costs, may be adjudged.

SUMMARY

This bill increases the minimum and maximum allowable fines for violation of the uncontrolled dogs laws. The bill also adds a minimum fine of $250 for keeping a dangerous dog.
