Members of the board shall must be residents of this State, and shall must be trustworthy and competent to fulfill the responsibilities imposed by this chapter. Each board member other than the public members shall and the licensed human service providers must have been engaged in the active practice of social work as a certified social worker - independent practice or licensed clinical, licensed master or licensed social worker for not less than 5 years prior to appointment.

The Governor may remove any member for cause.

Sec. A-11. 32 MRSA c. 83, sub-c. 3 is amended by repealing the subchapter headnote and enacting the following in its place:

Sec. A-12. 32 MRSA §7051, as amended by PL 1985, c. 736, §9, is further amended to read:

§7051. Social worker license required

In order to safeguard the life, health and welfare of the people of this State, any person practicing or offering to practice as a certified social worker - independent practice or licensed clinical, licensed master or licensed social worker shall be is required to submit evidence that he the person is qualified to so practice and shall be licensed have a license as provided in this subchapter.

The board may grant a conditional license to any person eligible to take the examination for licensure while waiting to sit for the examination or to any person who is waiting to retake the examination according to rules issued by the board.

Sec. A-13. 32 MRSA §7053, as corrected by RR 2001, c. 1, §41, is amended by repealing and replacing the headnote to read:

§7053.__Qualifications for social worker licensure

Sec. A-14. 32 MRSA §7053, 2nd ¶, as amended by PL 1985, c. 736, §11, is further amended to read:

The following shall must be considered as minimum evidence satisfactory to the board that an applicant is qualified for licensure as a social worker under this chapter.
