General Fund $291,750 $380,000

This bill includes General Fund appropriations of $291,750 and $380,000 in fiscal years 2001-02 and 2002-03, respectively, for the Computer Crimes program within the Department of Public Safety for one State Police Sergeant position and operating costs necessary for the administration of the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force.

The additional costs associated with the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force can be absorbed by the Department of the Attorney General utilizing existing budgeted resources.

SUMMARY

This bill establishes the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force, which is a collaborative partnership under the auspices of the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of State Police and includes the Department of Attorney General and local law enforcement agencies. The purpose of the task force is to investigate and assist those law enforcement agencies in the State that investigate crimes involving computers. The task force is funded by a General Fund appropriation.
