Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §1742, sub-§7, as amended by PL 1995, c. 665, Pt. G,
§1, is further amended to read:

 
7. Approve plans for public improvements. To approve all
proposals, plans, specifications and contracts for public
improvements that the State or any of its agencies hold in fee or
by leasehold interest and for school administrative unit projects
costing in excess of $100,000. The commissioner shall, upon the
request of a school administrative unit, provide consultation for
any public improvement regardless of cost. The Bureau of General
Services may assess school administrative units the reasonable
cost of services provided by the bureau for school construction
projects for which budgets have been established subsequent to
July 1, 1995.__In no case may the amount assessed for each
project exceed $15,000, and the Bureau of General Services shall
develop a fee schedule that prorates the fee based on the project
budget.__The Bureau of General Services shall furnish a quarterly
report to the project unit school board that details the services
provided to the project during the time period covered by the
report.__The Bureau of General Services shall submit to the State
Board of Education an annual report that summarizes the services
provided each project;

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill specifies that the fee assessed a school
administrative unit by the Department of Administrative and
Financial Services, Bureau of General Services for services
associated with a school construction project may not exceed
$15,000. The bill also requires the Bureau of General Services
to furnish reports to the project unit school board and the State
Board of Education concerning the services provided on school
construction projects.
