Sec. 1. Regulate harvesting of horseshoe crabs. Resolved: That the Department
of Marine Resources shall study the size and the sustainable
level of the harvest of the horseshoe crab resource. The
department shall also establish by October 1, 2002 rules and a
system of licensing for the harvest of horseshoe crabs. Rules
adopted pursuant to this resolve are major substantive rules
pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 5, chapter 375,
subchapter II-A.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Department of Marine Resources to
study the size and sustainable level of the harvest of the
horseshoe crab resource. The bill also directs the department to
establish rules and a system of licensing for the harvest of
horseshoe crabs by October 1, 2002.
