Representative John L. Tuttle Jr.

Rep. John Tuttle is serving his twelfth non-consecutive term in the Maine House. He has also served three terms in the Maine Senate and has nearly three decades of legislative experience. 

During his time in the Legislature, Tuttle has focused on bipartisan problem-solving. He has sponsored measures to support Maine hospitals and veterans and to improve the state’s infrastructure. He has served as chair of several policy committees. 

Tuttle is a retired Emergency Medical Technician and served 10 years as a medic in the Maine Army National Guard. His record of service includes 10 years as a Sanford Selectman and five on the Sanford City Council. 

A champion high school and collegiate wrestler, Tuttle was inducted into the Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2008. He is a graduate of Sanford High School, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine at Orono.

Tuttle lives in Sanford with his wife, Ann. He is a proud father and grandfather.

Rep. Tuttle is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs and Standing Committee of the House Engrossed Bills.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Alcoholic beverage laws; adult-use marijuana regulation; lottery; for profit and nonprofit gambling, including games of chance, beano and raffles; slot machines, gaming devices; harness racing and off-track betting; election laws; campaign practices; campaign financing and disclosures; the Maine Clean Election Act; voter registration; direct initiatives and people’s veto; legislative ethics; lobbyist registration and reporting; Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices; veterans’ programs; Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management Services (except the Maine Emergency Management Agency); Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations; Gambling Control Board; and Maine National Guard.
