Rep. Maggie O’Neil is serving her second term in the Maine House of Representatives.

Rep. O’Neil is a lifelong Saco resident. After attending McAuley High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Classics and History from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

While in school, Rep. O’Neil served an AmeriCorps term with the Maine Conservation Corps. In her time with MCC, she developed a deep appreciation for the value of Maine’s natural resources.

Rep. O’Neil volunteered with a literacy program that provided educational support to children from immigrant families. She also facilitated creative projects with public school students in an underserved area of Halifax, NS.

For five years, Rep. O’Neil worked as an Assistant Park Ranger at Ferry Beach State Park in Saco. She currently works in the hospitality industry. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running and being out on the water.

Committee

Rep. O'Neil is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and a member of the Government Oversight Committee.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; agricultural fairs, products and marketing; animal control and welfare; food safety, inspection and labeling; dairy industry; pesticides regulation; nutrient management; farmland preservation; state parks, historic sites, public lands, submerged lands and coastal islands registry; Maine Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC); geological surveying and mapping; forest management, marketing, utilization, health and fire control; the Land for Maine's Future Program; and Baxter State Park.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: The mission of the Joint Legislative Government Oversight Committee is to oversee program evaluation and government accountability matters in State government. The Committee seeks to ensure that public funds are expended for intended purposes, and that programs and activities are effectively, efficiently and economically managed. The Committee accomplishes this mission by conducting public inquiries and directing the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability to conduct independent, objective reviews of State agencies and programs and other entities receiving public funds or expending private monies for public purposes.
