Rep. Erik C. Jorgensen is serving his fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives. He is a returning member of the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. He has also served on the Commission to Study Transparency, Costs and Accountability of Health Care System Financing and is a member of the House Committee on Bills in the Second Reading. During the 128th session he was a member of the Joint Select Committee on Marijuana Legalization Implementation.

Jorgensen has 25 years of experience as an administrator in Maine's educational and cultural sector. Since joining the Legislature, he has been working in that field as a consultant. He was previously the executive director of the Maine Humanities Council, a statewide educational organization and Maine's affiliate of the federal National Endowment for the Humanities. He has also served as director of the Brunswick-based Pejepscot Historical Society.

Jorgensen has overseen local history and cultural projects in local schools, libraries, museums and other organizations across the state. He believes that cultural understanding is a critical underpinning of successful public policy.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University', where he was awarded a Henry G. Brooks Fellowship.

Jorgensen lives in Portland's Deering neighborhood with his wife, Tamara Risser, and their son, a student in the Portland public schools. His district includes Deering Center and surrounding neighborhoods.

Rep. Jorgensen is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: General Fund appropriations and general fiscal policy; federal funds allocations; special revenue and block grant allocations; Budget Stabilization Fund; unappropriated surplus; bond issues; collective bargaining funding; review of revenue estimates; budgeting methodologies, review of financial orders; financial evaluation of agencies of state government; Maine Public Employees Retirement System;  retirement eligibility and benefits for state and municipal employees, including teachers; judicial and legislative retirement systems.
