Rep. Lydia Crafts is serving her second term in the Maine House of Representatives. She is a member of the Marine Resources Committee and services as House chair of the Transportation Committee.

Rep. Crafts grew up in Belfast, where she learned that being from Maine meant needing to be a thoughtful problem solver, a strong collaborator and a champion for justice.

She also learned the importance of hard work, dedication and commitment to community. These beliefs informed how she chose her profession, how she’s raising her children and her approach to public service.

Rep. Crafts earned her master’s in social work from the University of Maine. As a social worker in local schools, her professional work has focused on supporting the critical mental health needs of children and families.

She lives in Newcastle with her family and two dogs.

Committee

Rep. Crafts serves as House chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Transportation and is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resource.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Transportation; Bureau of Motor Vehicles; motor vehicle registration and license plates; drivers’ licenses; driver education; Maine Turnpike Authority; Highway Fund; transportation policy; public transportation; aeronautics; highway and bridge construction and maintenance; highway safety; traffic regulation; waterways; railroads; Department of Public Safety, State Police; and motor vehicles and motor carriers.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Marine Resources; commercial marine fisheries management, licensing and enforcement; marine fish species; diadromous fish, mollusks; crustaceans; seaweed; sea urchins; sea cucumbers; processing and sale of marine fish and shellfish; and aquaculture.
