            (5-7)  Wendy Dennis, of Winthrop, for her 50 years of service with the Cobbossee Watershed District supporting the district's mission of protecting, improving and conserving the many lakes and ponds of the Cobbossee Watershed.  In her capacity as CWD Limnologist, she oversees the district's lake water quality monitoring program and has guided numerous lake and watershed restoration, protection and research projects.  She also coordinates a complex program of lake water levels management in the 217-square mile watershed and coordinates citizen volunteers, including invasive plant surveyors and lake water quality monitors.  We extend our appreciation and best wishes;

            (5-10)  Kathy Littlefield, of Waldo, longtime first selectperson in the Town of Waldo, on her retirement from the Select Board after having served for 53 years, serving most of those years as Chair.  Ms. Littlefield is believed to be the longest serving elected municipal official in Maine.  She was the founding member of the Waldo County Selectmen's Association in 2003 and a member of the State Board of Environmental Protection for 8 years, member of the Waldo County Budget Committee for 12 years, member of the Waldo County Jail Committee and member of the Maine Municipal Association Advisory Committee.  She was an active voice on the association's 70-member Legislative Policy Committee from the 1990s onward.  She was a founding member of the group that played a key role in pushing for local control to be incorporated into Maine's Constitution.  In 2017, she was awarded the Ethel N. Kelley Memorial Award by the Maine Municipal Association, which recognizes distinguished community service and is considered the association's most prestigious annual award.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

            (5-11)  Shirley Caler, of Waldo, on her retirement from the Select Board of the Town of Waldo after 30 years of service.  Ms. Caler was instrumental in the expansion of broadband in the town, with scholarship formation and administration and in regaining the land and the building where the current town office and community center are located.  Ms. Caler was a member of the parent organization of the Rena Whitney Scholarship Fund, which was named for a longtime resident and land donor who enabled the town to place a sand shed in the back of the town office and have a high-quality ballfield.  Ms. Caler was also a member of Here's Waldo Days, now the Waldo Boosters.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

            (5-12)  Scott K. Porter, of Marion Township, on his retirement as Superintendent of Schools for AOS 96 on June 30, 2025.  Mr. Porter has served the schools in the greater Machias area since 2005, has been a frequent participant on the Maine school management executive committee during his tenure and has been a leading voice in the Maine small schools coalition.  Prior to becoming superintendent of AOS 96, Mr. Porter served as superintendent of schools in Lubec.  He began his career in school administration at Washington Academy in East Machias in the late 1990s.  Mr. Porter also served as pastor of Head of the River Baptist Church in Cutler.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

In Memory of:

 

            (5-14)  the Honorable Paul R. Dionne, of Lewiston.  Mr. Dionne was a veteran of the Vietnam War, during which he earned two Bronze Stars, two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry and the Combat Infantryman Badge.  After his military service, he went on to be a lawyer, author and, in the 1980s, Mayor of Lewiston.  As mayor, he oversaw the redevelopment of Lisbon Street into a thriving corridor of commerce.  He was instrumental in bringing Lewiston-Auburn College to the city.  He also served many years on the Maine Workers' Compensation Board, most of which he served as executive director.  He found time for philanthropic work and for coaching the Lewiston High School mock trial team, and he published two well-regarded novels, The Priestess and the Pope and Madeleine's Inquisition.  Mr. Dionne will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family, friends and community;

            (5-15)  Mary Porter Foster, of Hallowell.  In 1965, Mrs. Foster and her husband Paul assumed ownership of the S.N. Foster Company, a local family business founded by Paul's father, Shirley Foster, Sr.  They worked side by side for more than three decades, growing the company that sold and serviced industrial and commercial heating systems throughout Maine.  Their efforts were recognized with a Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Award in 1984 for business excellence and community service.  She was an active member of Penney Memorial Church.  Mrs. Foster will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family, friends and community;
