(1-1) The following Joint Resolution: (S.P. 304)
JOINT RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR ERECTING A MONUMENT TO MAINE TROOPS WHO FOUGHT IN THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY IN VIRGINIA DURING THE CIVIL WAR
WHEREAS, during the Civil War, approximately 80,000 men from Maine served in the United States military as soldiers and sailors;and
WHEREAS, Maine contributed a higher proportion of its citizens to the Union armies than any other state and supplied extensive equipment and stores; and
WHEREAS, at the Third Battle of Winchester, which was fought on September 19, 1864 in Virginia, more than 2,000 Maine soldiers fought and more than 230 were casualties; and
WHEREAS, in the 1864 Shenandoah Valley campaign, 68 Maine soldiers were killed, 466 were wounded and 131 were reported missing;and
WHEREAS, several hundred Maine soldiers are buried at the Winchester National Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, there is currently no permanent monument to the sacrifice of these Maine heroes, either at Winchester or at any other battlefield in the Shenandoah Valley; and
WHEREAS, there is a private effort in conjunction with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation to raise the funds needed to purchase and install a stone memorial to Maine's contribution at the Third Battle of Winchester that would be dedicated to all Maine soldiers who fought in the Shenandoah Valley; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That We, the Members of the One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Legislature now assembled in the First Regular Session, on behalf of the people we represent, take this opportunity to show our support for erecting a monument to those Maine troops who fought in the Shenandoah Valley; and be it further
RESOLVED: That suitable copies of this resolution, duly authenticated by the Secretary of State, be transmitted to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.

JOINT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH 2019 AS SOCIAL WORK MONTH
WHEREAS, social workers have paved the way for change by enhancing the well-being of all people, especially the most vulnerable in society; and
WHEREAS, social workers have helped lead the nation's struggle for social justice and continue to advocate for positive social change and, more than the members of any other profession, social workers recognize that more must be done to address the persistent social problems that plague the State; and
WHEREAS, social workers support diverse families in every community and understand that individuals and communities together can bring about change; and
WHEREAS, social workers advocate for the rights of the disadvantaged and oppressed; and
WHEREAS, social workers advocate for children's rights to a safe environment and a good education; and
WHEREAS, social workers advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer rights; and
WHEREAS, social workers work to ensure good care is provided to older adults; and
WHEREAS, social workers help provide community support for veterans and their families after their service; and

In Memory of: (5-11) Robert Calvin Hamlyn, of Wells. Mr. Hamlyn joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age, serving on the USS Orion, USS Grand Canyon and USS F.M. Robinson. Following his return home, he worked at the Biddeford Textile mills, where he met his wife of 64 years, Lorraine Hamlyn. He started Hamlyn Bros., Inc. with his brother in 1958, and together they built homes throughout the Wells and Kennebunk area. He was also a licensed plumber, real estate broker and co-owner of The BoatShop, selling snowmobiles and boats. He was one of the original co-owners of Chase &Hamlyn Mineral Extraction. Mr. Hamlyn was an active member in his community as a little league coach, as well as a member of the Eagles, Wells Rotary, Ocean Masonic Lodge #142 and Wells &Ogunquit Senior Center. He co-founded and was a Past President of the Trailblazers Club in Wells. He also helped to design the 2003 350th commemorative coin for the Town of Wells. Mr. Hamlyn will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and by all those whose lives he touched;

(5-12) the Reverend Lionel Gerard Chouinard, of Lewiston, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Portland. Over 52 years in active, full-time ministry, Father Chouinard served as parochial vicar or assistant pastor at St. Christopher Parish on Peaks Island, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Madawaska and Holy Cross Parish in Lewiston, including as part-time chaplain at St. Dominic High School and as temporary administrator of the parish, and as pastor at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Machias, St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Parish in Mexico, St. Augustine Parish in Augusta and Holy Trinity Parish in Lisbon Falls, also assuming responsibility for Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Sabattus and its Mission, St. Francis, in Greene. He later served as administrator of the parish communities in Lisbon Falls, Sabattus and Green. He also served with the Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of Isabella as a chaplain, as well as with many other organizations. Father Chouinard will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

In 2001 he took up full-time residence in Bethel. He will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Joan, and by his family and friends;
