           (5-2)  Joseph McBrine, of East Machias, a 27-year member of the Maine Warden Service, who has been named the 2021 Maine Game Warden of the Year.  To receive this peer-nominated recognition, a game warden must have consistently conducted themselves in such a manner as to display an exceptional expertise in the areas of conservation law enforcement, management, community and public relations and all aspects of a game warden's duties.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

           (5-4)  Diane L. Dunn, of Newburgh Center, Brigadier General of the Maine Army National Guard, who is retiring after 34 years of service.  Brigadier General Dunn was the first woman to serve as a general in the Maine Army National Guard and received numerous decorations and badges throughout her service, including, but not limited to, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.  As her final assignment, she served as the Assistant Adjutant General.  We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

           (5-5)  Thomas Munson, of Fairfield, recipient of a Spirit of America Foundation Award. In Memory of:

 

           (5-27)  Philip F. Chapman, Jr., of Winthrop.  Mr. Chapman was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked as a mail sorter and later as a window worker for the United States Postal Service in Augusta for 25 years, until his retirement in 2013.  While his children were growing up, he volunteered his time coaching the local sports teams in Winthrop, and he also worked in the auto body shop at Charlies Chevrolet, formerly Barrows Chevrolet.  He was a longtime member of the Alfred W. Maxwell American Legion in Winthrop, the Oxford Lodge of Masons, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and the Augusta Elks Lodge 964.  Mr. Chapman will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Jeanette, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

           (5-28)  Sumner Glazier, Jr., of Pittston.  Mr. Glazier was a veteran of the United States Navy.  After his service, he purchased C & S Market on Riverside Drive in Augusta with his father and brother, which he owned and operated for 25 years.  In 1978, he was hired by the State of Maine to serve as secretary to the Maine Parole Board.  He later switched departments and became a health inspector, visiting schools, nursing homes, restaurants and camps, before retiring in 1994.  He was an active member of Penney Memorial Baptist Church, serving on both its board of directors and its board of trustees.  He also was a Mason, serving as Master of his Lodge, and coached Augusta East Little League baseball.  Mr. Glazier will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Jean, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

           (5-29)  Rita Moran, of Winthrop.  Ms. Moran worked as a bookseller, at one time owning Apple Valley Books in Winthrop, and was a political activist, but had also worked as a photographer, union advocate and trainer of emergency medical technicians in New York State.  She was a co-founder of EarthTides Pagan Network and for many years was a guiding spirit of the Pagan community, which she served as a teacher, celebrant, musician, organizer, ritual writer and performer.  She was a founding board member of the Maine Pagan Clergy Association and was a part of interfaith clergy efforts to advocate for equality for LGBTQ+ people. She attended a Democratic National Convention and served for a time as chair of the Kennebec County Democrats.  She was active with the Monmouth Community Players and central Maine library organizations.  Ms. Moran will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;

           (5-30)  Beverly Murdock, of Thorndike.  Mrs. Murdock was employed by the MIT Radiation Laboratory during World War II, building airborne radar systems, later working at times as a medical assistant, dental assistant and farmer.  She taught Sunday school, sang in church and community choirs, worked on the church finance committee and led a Girl Scout troop.  She dedicated herself to establishing Unity's ambulance company, helping to found the department in 1967, organizing training and raising funds for vehicles and building facilities, and served as treasurer for 40 years.  The Unity Volunteer Ambulance Company recently dedicated an ambulance in her memory.  A gifted storyteller, she wrote four children's books about an adventurous, kindhearted Maine woodland elf, the first book being published when she was 83 years of age.  Mrs. Murdock will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;

           (5-31)  the Honorable Joseph E. Brooks, of Winterport. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the Army National Guard.  He worked for the Bangor Daily News before retiring after almost 40 years of service.  From 1997 to 2002 and from 2013 to 2014, he represented Winterport in the Maine House of Representatives. Mr. Brooks will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

 

(SLS 922)

 

 

           (5-32)  Jeffrey Marshall, of Fairfield.  Mr. Marshall devoted almost 46 years working for the Wendy's brand, starting his career with Wendy's in Waterville as an assistant manager in 1976 and working his way up through the ranks.  Most recently, he worked as Director of Operations for the Legacy Capital Partners franchise, previously owned by Restwend LLC.  Very active in softball, he was a player, an umpire and a member of the greater Waterville Softball Umpires Association.  For many years, he was the District 6 Commissioner for USA Softball of Maine, and he started the Men's Fall League with Waterville Parks and Recreation.  In the 1990s, he served as a coach, helping to establish a program within the Lawrence community through the PAL program, and he served as a softball tournament director and umpire.  He also served as a member of the School Administrative District 49 school board from 1996 to 2004 and as a member of the Town of Fairfield's budget committee and planning board.  The Town of Fairfield dedicated its 2021 Town Report in his memory in recognition of his long service to his community.  Mr. Marshall will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of almost 45 years, Sandra, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

           (5-33)  Merle A. Beal, of Beals.  Mr. Beal caught lobsters and, every July 4th, entered his lobster boat, the "Silver Dollar," in the World's Fastest Lobster Boat Races.  For over 30 years, he sailed to Winter Harbor to race there as well. Mr. Beal will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Regina, and his family and friends;
