An Act To Promote the Use of Wood Pellet Central Heating Systems

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 35-A MRSA §10121, sub-§1, ¶F,  as amended by PL 2011, c. 637, §8, is further amended to read:

F. Provide rebates for cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies , including heating technology using wood pellets, as determined by the trust.

Sec. 2. Efficiency Maine Trust to provide rebates for purchase of wood pellet central heating systems. The Efficiency Maine Trust shall establish a program to provide a rebate in an amount equal to 50% of the purchase price up to $10,000 of a residential wood pellet central heating system and up to $20,000 of a nonresidential wood pellet central heating system pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 35-A, section 10121, subsection 1, paragraph F. The trust shall adopt routine technical rules, as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A, to implement the program.

This bill directs the Efficiency Maine Trust to provide a rebate from the trust's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Resource Fund in an amount equal to 50% of the purchase price up to $10,000 of a residential wood pellet central heating system and up to $20,000 of a nonresidential wood pellet central heating system.
