An Act To Opt Out of Federal Daylight Saving Time and To Ask the United States Secretary of Transportation To Place the State in the Atlantic Time Zone
Sec. 1. 1 MRSA §151, as repealed and replaced by PL 2007, c. 129, §1, is amended to read:
§ 151. "Standard Time"
The standard time for the State is the time as determined by 15 United States Code, Sections 260 to 267 , except that the State is exempt from the provisions of 15 United States Code, Section 260a providing for the advancement of time and instead observes the standard time otherwise applicable during that period.
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §6440, sub-§2, as amended by PL 2001, c. 123, §1, is further amended to read:
Sec. 3. Secretary of State to request that United States Secretary of Transportation place Maine in Atlantic Time Zone. The Secretary of State shall request that the United States Secretary of Transportation place the State in the Atlantic Time Zone.
Sec. 4. Contingent effective date. Sections 1 and 2 of this Act do not take effect until the United States Secretary of Transportation places the State in the Atlantic Time Zone pursuant to section 3.
SUMMARY
This bill creates an exemption to federal provisions regarding the observation of so-called Eastern Daylight Saving Time in the State and requires the Secretary of State to request that the United States Secretary of Transportation place the State in the Atlantic Time Zone.
