An Act To Allow Senior Hunters To Shoot Antlerless Deer

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11152, sub-§9  is enacted to read:

9 Senior hunters; antlerless deer.   Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the commissioner shall issue an antlerless deer permit to a person who is 70 years of age or older and possesses a valid hunting license under this Part. A person issued a permit under this subsection may take an antlerless deer during the open season on deer under section 11401. The department shall designate which hunting zones are open to the taking of antlerless deer pursuant to this subsection based on the department's management of the deer herd statewide.

SUMMARY

This bill allows persons 70 years of age and older to receive a permit to lawfully take an antlerless deer during the open season on deer. The bill directs the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to designate which hunting zones are open to the taking of antlerless deer.
