Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:

‘An Act To Allow Certain Veterans To Be Exempt from Portions of Hunter Safety Courses’

Amend the bill by striking out all of section 2 and inserting the following:

Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §11105, sub-§3  is enacted to read:

3 Hunter safety course exemption for veterans.   A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who provides at the time of application for the license that veteran's Armed Forces Report of Transfer or Discharge, DD Form 214, or its predecessor or successor form, or certification from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the appropriate branch of the Armed Forces of the United States verifying the applicant's military service and that the veteran received an honorable discharge within 3 years of the date of application is exempt from the portions of the hunter safety course requirements under subsection 1 that the commissioner determines have been satisfied by the veteran’s military training.

This amendment, which is the majority report of the committee, replaces the substantive provision of the bill. The amendment provides that a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who provides verification of military service and who received an honorable discharge within 3 years of the date of application for a hunting license is exempt from the portions of the hunter safety course requirements that the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife determines have been satisfied by the veteran’s military training.
