Correctional and Judicial Impact Statements
Establishes new Class D crimes.  The bill will primarily impact the county jail system.  The current average cost to counties for a Class D crime is $6,795 based on an average length of stay of 62 days at $109.60 per day.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
Provides a General Fund appropriation of $4,000 and a Highway Fund allocation of  $6,000 in fiscal year 2008-09 for State Police overtime, travel, and other costs to conduct a study to determine the ownership status of firearms used in firearms-related suicides.
Also appropriates $5,360 in fiscal year 2008-09 on a one-time basis for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention's contracting costs for this study.
