Fiscal Detail and Notes
Increasing the amount of time an employer may hire an employee without being charged for unemployment benefits from 5 weeks to 10 weeks may increase the amount of unemployment benefits paid by the State as a direct reimbursement employer.  The amount can not be determined at this time.  However, the Department of Labor has indicated that during the past year approximately 1,500 employers were affected by the provisions of this law as currently in Statute.  That number could increase significantly with the change from 5 weeks to 10 weeks.
